Third quarter-final rained out
Three teams have booked their places in the semifinals of the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association/ Vishnu Superstore Vishnu 50 overs cricket competition after winning their quarter final matches.
The competition, which started as a 50 over affair, was then played as a T20 after rain severely affect the matches. Now the organizers have reverted to the 50 overs format at the quarter final stage.
In results of the matches played, No68 Turn Team defeated No70 Spartans by eight runs in a close encounter.
No68 Turn Team batted first and were dismissed for 138 in 29 overs with the veteran Bhim George 23, Karran Persaud 20, Bojenarine Sookdeo 20, Dhaneshwar Gani19 and extras 29.
Bowling for No70 Spartans, there were 2 wickets each for L. Roopchand and C Singh. They in reply fell for 130 in 30 overs with T. Ramoutar 40, N. Deochand 23 and N. Yakoob 21.
The game between Jukestown Warriors and No70 MYO saw the latter winning by 4 wickets. The Warriors batted first and were fell for 91 in 23.3 overs with Clarence Beresford 41 and Balram Sookdeo 18.
Bowling for MYO, Sachin Khan did the damage with 5-24, while Salim Khan snared 3-24. In reply MYO reached 93-6 with Alim Khan 25 not out. Wayne Garnette picked up 2 wickets bowling for Jukestown.
No70 Cut and Load held their nerve to turn back the challenge of No43 Scorpions in another close encounter to win by 11 runs.
Cut and load batted first and made 111 in 27.1 overs with V.J. Persaud 20, Mukesh Edwards 18, with extras contributing 28.
Bowling for the Scorpions, Joel Samaroo with 3 and Devin Baldeo 2 were the chief wicket takers as they in turn fell for 100 in 28 overs with Malvin Baldeo 26, Shan Dhanraj 18 and extras 21.
Bowling for the winners, Mukesh Ewdards, Devinand Chatterpaul and Jamil Assad picked 3 wickets each.
The game between Skeldon Estate Community Centre and NO73 Young Warriors was rain out and will be played on Sunday with the winner joining the other winners in the semifinal which will be played the following week.
The competition began with 30 teams participating. Former Guyana Wicket Keeper batsman Sydney Jackman is the coordinator. (Samuel Whyte)
