Kaieteur Sports – Soesdyke Falcons booked their place in today’s semifinal showdown against Swan United after defeating Mocha Spartans 3-1 on Wednesday evening in the 2026 East Bank ‘Elite League’ Playoffs at the GFF National Training Centre in Providence.
The Falcons, alongside Herstelling Raiders, became the latest East Bank teams to advance as the Guyana Football Federation seeks to decide its East Bank representatives in the 2026 Elite League Playoffs.
Herstelling Raiders progressed without kicking a ball after Friendship Football Club failed to appear for their fixture, handing the Raiders an easy walkover victory.
Meanwhile, fans at Providence were treated to an entertaining encounter between Soesdyke Falcons and Mocha Spartans.
After a slow start to the double-header, Soesdyke gradually found their rhythm in a tightly contested first half. Neither side managed to break the deadlock during the opening 15 minutes, despite several attacking efforts.
Soesdyke eventually struck first in the 17th minute when Shakeem Billison finished from close range to hand his side an early 1-0 advantage.
Mocha Spartans responded with urgency in search of an equaliser, but a disciplined Soesdyke midfield frustrated their attacking efforts. Moments later, Soesdyke Falcons doubled their lead in the 25th minute through Terrence Glasgow, who burst through Mocha’s defence before rifling home a superb finish to make it 2-0.
Derrick Barker gave Mocha renewed hope some two minutes later, pulling one back in the 27th minute to reduce the deficit to 2-1 heading into the latter stages of the contest.
However, Glasgow returned late in the match to seal the victory, netting his second goal in the 82nd minute as Soesdyke secured a comfortable 3-1 triumph and moved one step closer to the 2026 Elite League.
Action in the playoffs continues today with Soesdyke Falcons facing Swan United at 6:30 p.m. in the first semifinal clash. In the second encounter, Timehri United will battle Herstelling Raiders at 9:00 p.m. for the remaining spot in the final.
The winner of the playoffs will qualify for the 2026 Elite League Playoffs scheduled to commence on June 7.
