Former Guyana first-class skipper batsman Damodar Daesrath slammed a brilliant, unbeaten 110 to pilot Brampton Gladiators to an efficient eight-wicket win over Fusion last Sunday at Marvin Heights Public School ground Mississuaga in another round of this year’s Ontario RoundArm Softball Cricket Association (ORSCA) 20-overs competition.
The right-handed Daesrath hit ten sixes and five fours as Gladiators safely reached 170-2 in the 16th over responding to Fusion’s competitive 164-8 from the 20-overs.
Daesrath received support from Muniram Karran who made 25. Daesrath, in partnership with Karran, set the foundation with an impressive 107-run for the first wicket. Canada-based Guyanese Yadram Bogh, an experienced player, made 20 not out.
For Fusion, Rishi Bachan top-scored with 50 while Aafroze Aziz supported by getting 28 not out. Karran led the way with the ball to take 3-14 from three overs bowling for the recently crowned ten-ten champion Brampton Gladiators.
Across at Elia Public School ground in North York, Masters humbled former champion Spartans by a superb nine-wicket margin. Spartans only managed an insufficient 157-6 at the expiration of the 20-overs while Masters galloped to 158-1 with 45 balls to spare. Their wonderful effort was led by attacking opening batsman Abdool Samad who cracked an unbeaten 73. Azam Haniff also showed aggression to make 62. Samad is the younger brother of ex-Guyana batsman Fizul Sattur.
When Spartans batted, Asif Ali made 50, while, skipper and former Guyana youth player, Fazil Gani added 37 runs.
Satrohan Doodnauth snared four wickets for 38 runs from his maximum four overs.
Details from the other games were not available. However, the competition is slated to continue this Sunday with a number of matches across the Greater Toronto Area.
