(Kaieteur News) – A 46-year-old construction worker was killed and several others were rushed to seek medical attention last night following the sudden collapse of a building under construction along the East Coast of Demerara.
The deceased has been identified as Radesh Domingo, who Kaieteur News understands from persons who worked with him, was a veteran construction worker of over a decade in years of experience and a father of one. Domingo, originally from Spring Gardens, Essequibo, had been residing in Mon Repos at the time of the fatal incident.
The tragedy occurred at a construction site in Atlantic Gardens, where a structure reportedly owned by businessman Omprakash Shivraj, popularly known as “Buddy” Shivraj, gave way without warning.

Information reaching this publication indicates that eight men were on-site and working at the time of the disaster. As the structure failed, it crashed into the yard of a nearby residence, sending shockwaves through the quiet neighbourhood and narrowly missing adjacent homes.
First responders, including firetrucks and ambulances, arrived at the scene shortly after the collapse to find a scene of massive destruction. Radesh Domingo was confirmed dead at the scene, having been pinned by the falling debris. Seven other workers sustained various injuries and were immediately transported away from the scene for emergency medical treatment.
The full extent of the survivors’ injuries remains unclear up to press time. The Guyana Police Force and emergency services cordoned off the area late last night to secure the site. It is expected that the Ministry of Labour’s Occupational Safety and Health Department will conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collapse, including whether safety protocols were followed during the late-night work session. Up to press time, no official statement had been released by the owners of the property regarding the cause of the structural failure.
