Kaieteur News – Yesterday at their Lilliendaal Headquarters, the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) held their final press conference ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics that gets underway from the 23rd of this month to August 8th.
Present at the media brief were President of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) K.A. Juman-Yassin, who announced that Garfield Wiltshire will be the Chef-De-Mission of the 15-member contingent representing the Golden Arrowhead at the quadrennial games.
In an invited comment with Kaieteur Sport, Wiltshire, who is a former multiple time Caribbean Squash Champion and Treasurer of the GOA, made special mention and thanks to Eureka Medical Laboratory that have sponsored a total of 16 PCR tests for the team.
Juman-Yassin also revealed that Angelica Holder, who was selected by the Guyana Physiotherapists Association, will be serving as the Covid-19 Officer of the team.
During the brief she explained her very important duties, “Everyone travelling to Tokyo will be undergoing daily testing, twice a day. I would have to report on the current status of everyone- coaches, officials and athletes- including myself, on whether negative or positive results have been submitted.”
“I would also have to make arrangements with Tokyo if we have any persons testing positive, to get them isolated or get them to the hospital if symptoms are present. Luckily, I’m also a Physiotherapist who worked in the COVID unit so I can also handle any severe respiratory distress.”
Juman-Yassin revealed that he won’t be heading to the Olympics but Aliann Pompey will be there as the Athlete Representative at the Games.
