Kaieteur News – Magistrate Alisha George, on Thursday remanded 59-year-old Samuel Daniels called “Samuel Critchlow”, to prison for allegedly knifing his wife to death during a fight.
Daniels, a domestic worker appeared in the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court when the indictable charge was read to him. The charge alleges that between June 20, 2021, and June 21, 2021, at Lot 50 West Road, Goedverwagting, East Coast Demerara, he murdered Shalini Paul called “Saskia Perreira”.
Magistrate George remanded Daniels to prison and the matter was adjourned to July 26, 2021.
This publication had reported that the 50-year-old woman’s motionless body with multiple bruises and stab wounds was discovered on the morning of June 21, 2021, after police went and checked the couple’s home.
According to a police report, between 20:00hrs on Sunday and 08:20hrs on Monday, Daniels and Perreira were involved in a fight. After Perreira’s body was discovered, she was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
After Daniels told the police that Perreira inflicted injuries on him, he was seen and examined by a doctor before he was placed in custody.
