DEAR EDITOR,
I am once more reluctantly replying to some misrepresentations made by Mr. Freddie Kissoon. I have responded to those charges before, however, after some months elapsed, Mr. Kissoon returns to the same subjects and make the same inaccurate charges thus forcing me to respond once again.
On June 6, 2021 in his Kaieteur News column, he said:
1. That he was dismissed from his job at the University of Guyana in 2012. That is not the whole truth. Indeed Mr. Kissoon had reached retirement age and his contract was not renewed by the Appointment Committee. At the time, he was not the only person that the Appointment Committee did not renew their contracts having reached retirement age, seven others met the same faith. The Committee had made a statement at the time responding to Mr. Kissoon’s allegations, which he did not respond to.
2. He also charged that his wife was pressured out of her job at GO-INVEST. (In previous times, he claimed she was dismissed.) That is far from the truth. I recall that Mr. Keith Burrows told me that Mrs. Kissoon had resigned. He expressed disappointment at her resignation because he added that she was a very good worker and he really did not want to lose her.
I recall telling him if he thought so, he should try to persuade her to stay. He later told me that he spoke to her, but she had refused to stay on, saying she found a higher paying job.
Mr. Burrows can verify this.
3. He charged that his nephew was struck down by my son in Kitty. This is another falsification.
If my son had struck down Mr. Kissoon’s nephew, then the logical conclusion would be that the car that was driven by my son had hit his nephew with the front of the vehicle.
That did not happen. Mr. Kissoon’s nephew was lifting a heavy object and stumbled into the side of the car.
It is true that Mr. Kissoon had Mr. Benschop call me. I got the impression that they were asking me for some money to compensate Mr. Kissoon’s nephew or that they would go public.
I told him bluntly that my son was not responsible for the accident, and I preferred to leave the matter in the hands of the police.
Those are the facts.
