Dear Editor,
A trillion-dollar budget focused on the transformation of the lives of Guyanese has once again missed the mark. Region one lacks the medical infrastructure and capabilities to save a newborn, while new hospitals are built elsewhere. Medical facilities available to Amerindians lack continual electricity while an overpriced and late gas to energy project languishes due to poor management and alleged corruption. An embattled subject minister who has been linked to the worst tragedy in the country’s history and has yet to tender his resignation speaks now of blackouts continuing while millions of US dollars are wasted on power ships that will eventually sail away with the funds that could have been spent to ensure that every hospital has the power supply necessary to avoid power interruptions to critical medical services.
The government has also spent taxpayer funds on new roads, new water vessels, and new forms of air transportation, but once again their response to a request for emergency assistance has resulted in too little too late, leaving the vulnerable at a hospital without the facilities to care for a new arrival to our homeland. Unfortunately, this has resulted in yet another innocent life lost. The PPP’s failure in their service to the Amerindians and the Guyanese people is inexcusable. Lots of money and multiple record-breaking budgets, but the funds cannot find their way to where they are most needed. The incompetence and corruption are overwhelming. Only when good intentions begin to guide the actions of the Ali administration will this nonsense and senseless loss of life end. The PPP/C has turned into a political joke and a humongous disappointment of disastrous proportions. Show us that you truly care and stop the tragic loss of life.
Sincerely,
Jamil Changlee
