Ifill’s all-round work gives Regal Masters 10-Wkt win
W/Dem Mavericks remain unbeaten joined W/ B’ce & Jai Hind in play offs
An outstanding all-round performance from Anthony Ifill, who blasted three sixes in a cameo unbeaten 28 after taking 3-2, highlighted fourth round action in the rain-hit GCB/Tropical Spring O-40 T20 cricket tournament yesterday at the Everest ground in the City.
At Everest, heavy overnight and morning rain left the First-Class venue water logged resulting in the contest between Everest Masters and West Demerara Mavericks being washed out without a ball being bowled.
However, this result propelled the team from the West side to their fourth successive unbeaten match and joined Berbice unbeaten sides Jai Hind Legends and West Berbice in places in play-offs.
West Demerara Mavericks beat RP Construction Legends, got a walk-over from KV Construction Masters (who has withdrawn from the 16-team tournament) and defeated West Demerara Masters before yesterday’s no-result.
In the afternoon game at Camp Road, Regal Masters hammered Sand Pippers by 10 wickets with 13 balls to spare.
Sand Pippers were restricted to 39-6 in a game reduced to 10 overs as only Bhupendra Deokie and Alvin Charran reached double figures as medium pacer Anthony Ifill captured 3-2 from two miserly overs.
Regal Masters galloped to 43 without loss in 8.5 overs to register a convincing 10-wicket win. Ifill crowned a fine all-round performance by lofting three consecutive sixes in a pugnacious unbeaten 28, while former Berbice Inter-County batsman Eion Abel was the silent partner finishing on eight not out.
At Enmore, Bel Air Rubis Ultra Tec got a walk-over from KV Construction Legends in the morning game before West Demerara Masters reached 95-8 off 20 overs with Elroy Fernandes and Chabiraj Parmanand, with 18 each got into double figures.
Chatterpaul Singh had 2-9 for RP Construction Legends who replied with 98-7 in 19.1 overs to win by three wickets.
Rohan Mangar led the win with an unbeaten 37 as Sudesh Persaud and Steve Harripaul took two wickets each.
The tournament continues tomorrow in the Berbice and on Monday in the Demerara Zone. (Sean Devers)
