Republic Bank (Guy) Ltd renews sponsorship of RHTYSC Cricket Teams Supports August Holiday Camp

Since 2000, the ten cricket teams of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, Ms as part of their personal developmental programme has organised a August holiday Camp for students preparing for entrance into Secondary School at the beginning of the new school year. The Rose Hall Town Branch of Republic Bank (Guy) Ltd has been the official sponsor of the Camp since it started and earlier this week renewed its sponsorship for 19th consecutive year.

RHTYSC Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster, MS stated that this year’s Summer Camp would start on Monday 15th July and ends on Friday 9th August, 2019. The Club is catering for up to sixty students drawn from several schools in the Rose Hall Town catchment area. Among the schools targeted are Rose Hall Town Primary, Port Mourant Primary, Belvedere Primary, Cropper Primary, Tain Primary and Auchlyne Primary.
The main objective of the Camp is to assist Grade Six Students to make a successful transition from the Primary level to Secondary. Other objectives include promotion of the Say No/Say Yes Message, teaching the students the art of playing cricket, the importance of Education and Discipline along with the importance of being a positive role model.
The veteran RHTYSC Administrator, who is also the President of the Berbice Cricket Board, disclosed that the Classroom work would be conducted by a Senior Educator employed by the Club, while he and Asst Secretary/CEO Simon Naidu would be responsible for the lecture series. Cricket Coach Delbert Hicks would work along with the students in several one hour sessions as part of the Club’s Say Yes to Sports effort.
Classes would be held Monday to Friday from 08.30 hours to 12.00 noon, with students being taught English, Maths, Social Studies, Integrated Science, Geography and basic Spanish. Each child attending and successfully completing the Camp would receive a school bag and educational materials, while the overall Best Student and Top Student in each subject would receive special prizes. Awards would also be given to the Most Discipline Student, Most Improved Student and Best Attendance. Among topics to be lectured on by qualified personnel would be Importance of Education, Importance of Discipline, Choosing Friends, Suicide/Depression, Personal Hygiene, Manners in the Classroom, Career Choices, Public Speaking, Basic Public Manners and Peer Pressure.
During the special cricket coaching sessions emphasis would be placed on physical fitness, batting and bowling as the Club promotes the importance of sports as an alternative to a life on the road. The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club would provide all the necessary educational materials free of cost.
Asst Secretary/CEO Simon Naidu hailed Republic Bank as a long standing supporter of Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation and one of the main foundation for its unmatched record of achievements. He noted that the Bank also Co-sponsored the RHTYSC Annual Award Ceremony, Annual Youth Review Magazine, Cricket Academy among other programmes.
The Camp, Naidu stated, has over the years enabled over seven hundred Grade Six Students to make the transition from Primary to Secondary School, while thirty nine of them have gone on to play cricket at the Club. Students have gone on to have careers as Nurses, Accountants, Teachers, Bankers and Public Servants among others. Naidu expressed gratitude to the Bank for being a remarkable friend of the Club and its support for the promotion of Education.
