Kaieteur Sports – Guyana’s National Paralympic Table Tennis Champion Gibran Safaraz has been selected to participate in the prestigious ITTF Para Table Tennis High-Performance Training Camp, scheduled to take place from August 2–6, 2026, in Spokane, Washington, USA.
Safaraz earned his place in the elite programme following a nomination submitted by the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), with the International Table Tennis Federation recognizing his outstanding potential and long-term prospects as one of the region’s emerging para table tennis athletes.
A Level 10 international para athlete, Safaraz has proudly represented Guyana at the Parapan American Games and, during his career, achieved a world ranking inside the Top 30 in his sport. His selection reflects both his proven ability and the confidence that the international table tennis community has in his future development.
The prestigious high-performance programme will provide world-class coaching, advanced technical and tactical development, sports science support, and valuable international competition exposure. The camp represents an important milestone in Safaraz’s long-term preparation and qualification pathway toward the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.
The GTTA believes this opportunity represents a significant investment in both the athlete and the future of para table tennis in Guyana.
Safaraz has expressed a renewed commitment to his sporting career and has set his sights firmly on qualifying for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.
“This opportunity has reignited my motivation and determination. I am fully committed to doing everything possible to qualify for Los Angeles 2028 and proudly represent Guyana on the Paralympic stage. I know the work ahead will be demanding, but I am ready to embrace the challenge.”
The Association also expressed appreciation to the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) for its continued investment in athlete development and high-performance initiatives, which continue to provide athletes from developing nations with access to world-class training opportunities.
