The Guyana Football Federation (GFF)/ ExxonMobil International Futsal festival kicked off on Thursday night at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) with much subscription from the local
fan base, a gathering which is not usually enjoyed by the usual events that are hosted at the indoor facility.
After a long hiatus of competitive futsal at the venue, the eager fans were not disappointed on the night which saw good round-robin match ups among all eight of the teams that are contesting the event. One of the three guest teams, Galaticos De Roraima that fittingly translates to Roraima Supertars, backed up their name and handed West Demerara All-stars a sound 11-3 thrashing.
The Brazilians knocked the ball around with the flair that is usually associated with their homeland and were scoring goals with much ease mainly through dribbles on the wing before squaring to unmarked players in the box.

West Dem. All-stars (on the ball) created a few opportunities of their own but lacked the finishing touch.
Raphael Lopes scored five of the winners’ goals, while Pomailsande DeJesus bagged a hat-trick with Jaoa DaCosta and Lucas Martins and Arckson Andreazza each netting one goal.
A brace from Trayon Bobb and one from Dexroy Adams accounted for West Demerara’s consolation goals.
In the feature game of the night, Georgetown All-stars registered a win for the locals with an emphatic 8-2 win over ZV All-stars of Suriname.
Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson and Pernell Schultz each netted braces, while Stephan McLean, Adrian Aaron, Ryan ‘Bam Bam’ Hackett and Phillip Rowley banged in one goal each in the win.
Earlier in the night, Trinidad and Tobago’s (T&T) Morvant Caledonia United got past Linden All-stars 7-5 in the 12-goal thriller which the islanders led throughout, while Guyana All-stars had an easy 4-0 win over East Coast All Stars.

Linden All-stars’ Custodian Travis Bess, spent a lot of time on the floor after conceding seven goals in his team’s lost to Caledonia on Thursday.
The tournament has four playing days from December 27th to 30th (tomorrow) when the winning team will pocket $1.2 million, while the losing finalist will receive half that amount, third will get $300,000 and fourth $100,000. Admission to the Homestretch Avenue venue is $1,000. (Calvin Chapman story and photos)
