Several sports journalists were among those rewarded for their efforts and dedication when NexGen Global Marketing held its inaugural media awards ceremony on Thursday night at Bookland Gardens in Georgetown.
Zaheer Mohamed and Calvin Chapman of Kaieteur News, Rajiv Bisnauth and Rawle Toney of Guyana Chronicle, Eric Collymore, Travis Seymour and Kester Pompey of NCN, Clifton Ross of Guyana Times, Esan Griffith of Capitol News, Romario Samaroo, Emmerson Campbell and Duncan Saul of Stabroek News, Chelsea Griffith of MTV and Stanford Howard of HGPTV were recognised for their reporting in the various sport disciplines.
Apart from the sporting media, other media personalities including radio and on-line were also recognised for their commitment.
The evening started with guests walking the red carpet with velvet ropes, treated to wine, hors d’oeurves, and live music by Guyana’s top saxophonist Roy Stewart before being served a full dinner complemented by desserts.
Mayor of Linden Wanda Arrindell and Deputy Mayor Bethune along with Former Ambassador to the UN Henry McDonald, Hemraj Kissoon, Director General of the Tourism Authority Donald St. Clair, Bishop Guy Griffith, and Ms India Shoshanna Ramdeen were all part of the grand festivities and presentation of awards. Co-host of the event was the winner of best TV Personality Joel Gansham.
The Awards ceremony was created by Vice President of NexGen Global, Aleem Hussain who was readily supported by Banks DIH, Macorp, ISG, New Trend Auto, Brusters, AR Printery and Party Castle and Mr. Hopkinson of Bookland Gardens. The idea was to allow the members of the various media houses to select persons they felt were deserving of recognition and thereby create an award system where each media house would have more input into the selection process.
Aleem Hussain stated that this was the first of many more events that NexGen Global Marketing would put on at the fabulous Bookland Gardens venue, adding that it was the most elegant and best kept secret in the country – but not any longer! “We have every intention of making this location with its gorgeous garden setting the number one entertainment spot in a short time.
