Lone Guyana Athlete cops gold in the CUT Games

Neron Wilson at the recently held Caribbean Union of Teachers (CUT) athletic championship held in Bermuda.

Neron Wilson came out top among the U11 athletes at the recently held Caribbean Union of Teachers (CUT) athletic championship held in Bermuda by winning the overall title in that category. The 10 year old from Fyrish Village, Corentyne, Berbice and a student of the Port Mourant Primary School was expected to perform well.
However, he had to endure more that he could chew in performing in the U11 category. He took on the mantle of bearing the burden due to the late arrival of the rest of the Guyanese contingent and did not disappoint.
Wilson, who reportedly travelled from the United States, was prompt than the rest of the Guyanese contingent. Due to him being the only Guyanese athlete around at the start of the competition he participated in more events that he had entered for. He placed third in his pet event the 300M boys U11 thus bring home a bronze for Guyana.
It is understood that the Guyana contingent arrived way after the events began. As such Neron doubled up for his country and in so doing after amassing the most points in his age category copped the best athlete trophy in that category.
According to information because the other athletes were not in place Wilson decided to compete in a number of other events and placed in most.
He also participated in the Long Jump, 100M, 200M and throwing the cricket ball events and placed fourth in all. For his exploits he received a trophy for being the top athlete.
According to his relatives, Wilson would usually sojourn to the United States where he would also participate with success. His aim is to continue to do well for Guyana.
Wilson is the nephew of former national cyclists Wilbert and Gary Benjamin.
