Maxido Founder, Senior Instructor 1st two Guyanese inducted into WKU Hall-Of-Fame

On Saturday, at the Chateau Resort & Conference Centre, in the Poconos Mountains of Pennsylvania, USA, 5th Dan Master Max Massiah, Founder & Chief Instructor of Maxido Adult Self Defence System, and 5th Dan Master Anthony Durjan Sr, the Senior Instructor of Maxido, became the 1st Guyanese pair to be inducted into the WKU (World Karate Union) Hall-Of-Fame, during the WKU’s 2-day event of seminars, tournaments, and the banquet & awards ceremony, attended by high-ranking Martial Artists from the USA and several countries from around the World.
Master Durjan received the Golden Lifetime Achievement Award, and Master Max received the award for Outstanding Contribution to the Martial Arts. The pair was nominated by Professor Christopher Francis, the Caribbean Director for WKU.
Maxido Adult Self Defence System launched its first training Dojo in October 2017, in Brooklyn, New York, and started classes in Guyana in February of 2018. The system has been rapidly gaining worldwide attention due to both its uniqueness and effectiveness. Formulated and designed by Master Max Massiah, it is based strictly upon self-defence applications, which has a focus on 4-seconds (or less) applications of submission, dislocation, or breakage of the assailants upper limbs (shoulder, elbow, wrist, and any part of the arm). The 2 Guyanese share at total of 94 years of practicing the ancient science (48 years for Durjan, 46 years for Massiah).
Massiah now becomes Guyana’s (only) 4-time Hall-of-Famer, having been inducted thrice into the “Legends Of Martial Arts” Hall-of-Fame, whose Directors are Grandmaster Eric
Kovaleski, Cynthia Rothrock, Whang Jang Lee (Silver Fox), and other World-renowned Martial Artists, who have recognised Massiah for his dedication & contributions to Martial Arts.
Master Durjan is the past President of the Guyana Karate Federation, and current President of GAKA (Guyana Amateur Karate Association). After being trained in the techniques, was appointed Senior Instructor, and promoted to 1st Dan Black belt in the Maxido system. The current highest level Maxido students are green belts.
The Dojo is located at 166 Waterloo St, (between Lamaha & Waterloo Sts). The next class begins on August 20th.
Massiah said it was formulated for business owners, professionals, workers, especially elderly, females, law enforcement, & security – all who are vulnerable to muggings, bullyism, domestic assault, rape etc.
The Martial Arts veteran advised that “Everyone is responsible for themselves and family, in being prepared to effectively defend themselves against the evil-minded”.
