BCB acquires Overseas sponsorship for Joseph ‘Reds” Perreira visit in July

Plans by the Berbice Cricket Board to host International Cricket Commentator and outstanding Sports Administrator, Joseph ‘Reds’ Perreira, has received a major boost with a financial donation from an overseas based Berbician Mr. Vernon Thorne. The former New Amsterdam resident donated (US$500) $100,000 to the Berbice Cricket Board for the visit, while another New York based Guyanese has agreed to stand the cost of the remainder of the visit. The handing over ceremony for the second donation would be done next week when the sponsor returns home from a vacation. Both donations were obtained through the tireless hard work of Berbice Cricket Board Liaison Officer in the United States, Oscar Ramjeet. Ramjeet is an Attorney-at-Law and former Secretary of the Berbice Cricket Board in 1964.
Berbice Cricket Board President Hilbert Foster stated that the legendary Guyanese Cricket Commentator would be in Berbice from the 18th to 22nd July, 2018. He would arrive at the Ogle Airport via Liat Flight on the 18th July, at 14.30 hours and then make his way to the Ancient County. The main objectives of the five days visit are to educate Cricket Administrators of their roles and duties, to assist all cricket clubs in Berbice to get properly organised with Management Structures, to educate young cricketers on the history and traditions of the game and to inspire all Stakeholders of Berbice Cricket to greater success. Perreira would have meetings with Berbice Cricket Board Executives, Female Cricketers, Umpires Association and Senior Cricketers. He would also be involved in an all day Stakeholders Conference on Saturday 21st July, at the St. Francis Community Developers Training Centre. The Berbice Cricket Board would also be honouring their guest in a special way on Friday 20th July. Courtesy calls would also be made to the Regional Chairman and Mayors in Region 6.
Foster expressed confidence that the visit would be of great benefit to Berbice Cricket and most importantly, would achieve all of its objectives. He expressed gratitude to Thorne and Ramjeet for their support of Berbice Cricket. Vernon Thorne expressed delight to been given the opportunity to support the Ancient County and expressed confidence that Berbice Cricket would once again rise to the top. Ramjeet stated that he is a proud Berbician and readily agreed to assist when he was approached by the Berbice Cricket Board President. Perreira in an invited comment stated that he was looking forward to the visit and was delighted to be of assistance to the Berbice Cricket Board.
