The ten cricket teams of Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation, the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS are assisting the Executives of the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association to fulfill their dreams of hosting a historic Award Ceremony. The teams have handed a total of twelve trophies to the Association and would also be sponsoring all the certificates for the event. Additionally, the teams would also be donating medals and standing the cost of the portraits for the establishment of the Upper Corentyne Hall of Fame.
The Upper Corentyne Cricket Association on Sunday 10th June, 2018, would create history when it hosts the first ever Award Ceremony for the Area at the Taj Mahal Hotel, located at No. 79 Village, Corriverton. The Award is the brain child of Berbice Cricket Board President and Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster, who challenged the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association to host it with the support from his Club. The Berbice Cricket Board President made the challenge during his Face the Clubs Meeting in the Upper Corentyne Area.
Foster, in handing over the trophies on behalf of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club stated that his Club was also happy to assist the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association as the two organisations enjoyed a very cordial relationship. He expressed confidence that the Award Ceremony would be a huge success and would lay the foundation for better days in the Upper Corentyne Sub-Association. The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, he disclosed was delighted to assist others to become successful as itself because Sports was the only secure alternative to a life away from Satan and his evil world of drugs, tobacco, alcohol and crime. Since the election of Foster as President of the Berbice Cricket Board on the 18th February, 2018, the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS has used $800,000 of its own funds to finance the development of Berbice Cricket. Additionally, the Club has assisted dozens of fellow clubs and young cricketers with cricket gears, scorebooks, cricket balls, stumps and trophies at the cost of $2M for the first five months of 2018.
The Upper Corentyne Cricket Association would be sharing out twelve major awards at the Ceremony including Under-15 Player of the Year, Club of the Year, School of the Year and Cricketer of the Year. The Association would induct three former Guyana Players into its historic Hall of Fame, honour several Berbice junior cricketers and also acknowledged the contributions of sponsors. Several Schools at the Primary and Secondary levels would also receive Certificates of Participation from the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association. Foster, in his capacity as Berbice Cricket Board President would deliver the Feature Address. He would hand over cricket balls to twenty clubs, presents Educational Posters to 28 Clubs and unveil the Official Sponsor of a Double Wicket Competition for teams in the Sub-Association.
