(Kaieteur News) – Juan Edghill is a spiritual man. More than an ordinary one, a Bishop he is. Receive a bow Bishop Edghill. Now, the difficult part: where art thou, Eminence?
Thou shalt be seen and heard (minister and evangelise), but of those nary a whisper, not even the thin squeaking of a puppy that’s still a baby. When women are impugned obscenely in moblike public forums, when the tools of our times are twisted viciously to pierce. To savage those Guyanese who are seen as parasites, who matter as much as rodents. The women in the PPP have wrapped themselves in frightened silence, which is regrettable. But what of you, Bishop Edghill?
A preacher must be more than a pious speaker from the pulpit on Saturdays and Sundays. He must be a man of substance, living what he preaches and teaches, fighting for the rights of the afflicted and downtrodden. Isn’t that so, Bishop? I believe that Juan Edghill the minister of politics must be identical to the minister of religion. Can we agree on that, Eminence? The Ten Commandments must be lived by all, especially us two. And this other one that I am presumptuousness enough to lay at Bishop Edghill’s feet. Thou shalt fear no man. I shall speak, stand for what is right. Go ahead, make my day: fire me. A former minister, but still a presence in the PPP with Cabinet power, lashes out at a citizen, and where are you, Bishop Edghill? Spiritual standards and political standards couldn’t be further apart in this country, in the PPP Govt. But of that I am waiting to hear a morsel of disappointment, Bishop, a drip of impatience, that this has gone on too long.
Bishop, you are a man of Christ. I implore you: live it, Padre. You know the call to sacrifice, may actually teach it. Hence, it follows, that you should be an example of such sacrifice. What will the president and vice president do, takeaway your job, replace the bright light that hangs over your head, but which may be misplaced?
I am bold enough to assert, Bishop, that you can afford the sacrifice, having been so close to power for so long. Colleagues curse women, abuse children, and make a mockery of virtues, and where are you, Bishop Edghill? Where is that strong, searing man of Christlike voice? Surely, his words are heard, but cannot have so little meaning, outside of Saturdays and Sundays, Lordship. Try these words. Thou shalt not kick people. If so for the friendly, then that must also apply to those seen as enemy. A Mash Day comment embedded in a letter to the president should never provoke such a desecration in a democracy. Nor what is abhorrent to the deity with whom Bishop Juan Edghill has had such a long, glorious, and prosperous relationship.
If everyone else in this country should see nothing wrong with what is odious. Or, seek shelter in flights of silence, then it is imperative that a man of God, a man of the spiritual caliber, such as Bishop Edghill stirs from his slumber, and whispers openly. This will not be allowed in my presence. This monstrosity will not breathe. This foulness must not linger. No brother worker of mine, no comrade of mine, will dare engage in the obnoxious, and foolish in the belief that he can get away with any such deformity.
A new standard has to be set. In the way that expression is presented in the public space. In the way that communication from the PPP, as a group, as a government, is shared for the world to digest. Guyanese hear enough about roads and airports, and all the great public works that spring up over this country. They wait to hear what Guyana stands for, what Bishop Juan Anthony Edghill is all about, and with what there should never be any quibbling. No shifting of your feet, Bishop, to slide around (or away) from challenges. No moving of the eyes so as not to see what isn’t wished to be seen. Nor rebalancing of the head, Bishop Edghill, so there is shrinking from weighing in, pronouncing. If you Bishop Edghill cannot see nor hear Nigel Dharmalall, then darkness and deafness reign.
