Massy U18 Secondary School football championship in effect today at QC ground

Kaieteur Sports – The wait is finally over. Guyana’s future football stars is set to face their toughest challenge as the Petra-Massy 12th Annual Boy’s Under-18 Football Tournament officially kicks off at the Queen’s College ground in Georgetown today.

With 32 top secondary schools vying for supremacy, the tournament promises to be a high-stakes showcase of skill, strategy, and school pride. Following last Thursday’s official launch and the March 17th team briefing exercise, the anticipation has reached a fever pitch as players prepare to stake their claim for the 2026 title.

The Secondary Schools road to glory, starts today at 10:00 hours with the traditional march past, signaling the official start of a grueling and exciting road to the championship. Schools and spectators are in for a marathon of action, with eight heavy weight clashes scheduled to keep the energy levels high throughout the day.

The honour of being the tournament’s curtain-raiser falls to Zeeburg Secondary and Hope Secondary, who will square off in the opening match. Following that, the pressure mounts immediately as Patentia Secondary clashes with Georgetown’s underdogs, East Ruimveldt Secondary.

The lineup continues to build momentum throughout the day as Charity Secondary meets with Vryman Erven Academy in game three followed by West Minster Secondary versus St. Joseph High. Immediately after that, West Ruimveldt will tackle Yarrowkabra Secondary before New Campbellville Secondary faces off with Belladrum Secondary.

As the sun begins to set, the competition is expected to reach a crescendo. One of the most anticipated matchups of the afternoon sees Charlestown Secondary take on the tactically disciplined St. John’s College. Known for their stubborn defensive prowess, St. John’s will look to stifle the Charlestown attack in what experts predict will be a tactical chess match on grass.

However, all eyes will undoubtedly be on the final showdown of the day. The defending champions, Dolphins Secondary, begin their journey to repeat history as they open their title defense against a hungry Ann’s Grove Secondary side. For the champions, it is the first step in proving that they still hold the crown; for Ann’s Grove, it is a chance to claim an early tournament upset.

The tournament, sponsored by Massy Distribution, continues to receive vital backing to ensure players welfare. The organiser, Petra Organisation, has confirmed that the event has received full approval from the Ministry of Education, with the Demerara Mutual Group providing essential personal accident insurance coverage for all participating athletes.
