East Bank Inter-Village Football Tournament…
Kaieteur Sports – It will all go down at the Eccles EE Community Ground this Saturday and Sunday when the second weekend of action in the inaugural East Bank Inter Village Football Tournament, organised by Sports Extra takes center stage with four contrasting match-ups.
In today’s fixtures, Herstelling, leading the points table in Group B will take on Swan which is making its first appearance from 18:00hrs with the former relishing the chance to become the first team making the quarter finals.
Last weekend, Herstelling turned back the challenge of Lower Soesdyke 2-0 and will be aiming for a win in their final group clash which will see them through to the next round, which will be the knockout round.
Swan will be no pushovers as they will seek to follow in the footsteps of their Soesdyke Linden Highway neighbours, Kuru Kururu which trounced Agricola last week. A hectic start of night three of action is anticipated.
The feature clash on Saturday night will see Group C play between Upper Soesdyke against Circuitville, the latter in a must win situation having lost their opening match to Group, 7-2. Upper Soesdyke in their first match will be going for a win as their final group game will be against the dangerous former East Bank #1 football village, Grove.
While Circuitville, seemingly might be on the ropes, they will be coming hard and will throw everything at the Upper Soesdyke lads in order remain in the race for a quarter final berth. Fans are in for a treat.
In tomorrow’s fixtures: giant killers, Kaneville, fresh off a huge 1-0 win over the mighty Timehri team will square off against Friendship from 18:00hrs, while Mocha and Agricola do battle in what is surely anticipated to be an exciting clash as Agricola need a win to remain in the tournament.
Kaneville will hope for another successful day which will place them into the knockout phase. It will be Friendship’s first kick of the tournament, and they too would want to secure a win to announce their presence in the tournament.
Mocha, one of the competition’s favourites will be aiming to make it difficult for Agricola to advance after their opening loss to Kuru Kururu. What is certain is that fans are in for two days of delightful action this weekend at the Eccles EE Community ground.
A total of $3million in prize monies will be up for grabs with the first prize set at $1million, while 2nd, 3rd and 4th prizes are $500,000, $250,000 and $150,000 respectively along with individual accolades for Best Goalkeeper, Most Valuable Player and Highest Goalscorer.
