A 21-year-old on Thursday appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court charged withf robbery under arms.
Rhondell Crawford, of Betsy Ground Village, East Canje, Berbice while in the company of others, on Friday, March 2, 2018 at Potocco Creek, Canje River robbed Bharrat Mahadeo of one solar panel worth $75,000; 24 sheep valued $1.2 M; 15 ducks valued 30,000; horse bit valued $10,000; four-length rope valued $24,000; two torchlights valued $4,000; cutlass worth $2000; radio worth $2500, and one Nokia cellphone worth $5000 property of Krishna Persaud.
Magistrate Alex Moore denied bail after Prosecutor Brown objected to bail, on the grounds that he Crawford is expected to be charged jointly together with two others at their next court date.
He is set to return to court on March 26, 2018.
On Wednesday, Timothy Sampson, 30, a cattle farmer of Lot 12 Adelphi Village, East Canje, Berbice and Lawrence Vanlewin, 24, a chainsaw operator of Sand Hill were also charged jointly with robbery under arms before Magistrate Moore for the said robbery.
Sampson, Valewin, Crawford and three others, two of whom were shot dead by police in the Canje River, are accused of robbing the ranch, located in the said Canje River along with the workmen of Krishna Persaud, last week.
Last week Friday at approximately 10:00 am police in B’ Division acting on information of a robbery at Potocco Creek, Canje River, ventured to the area.
Police intercepted a boat with the suspects who are now in custody, in the Berbice River and based on further information, the ranks proceeded to a location where the robbery allegedly took place. There, they discovered all of the animals with their legs bound and the other stolen property loaded inside of a camouflaged aluminium boat.
It was after the ranks disembarked their boat that they were confronted by the now dead men, Amar Bissoon and Indarjit Sham, who discharged several rounds at them; the officers quickly adapted tactical positions and returned fire, fatally wounding the men were positively identified by the victims as members of the gang who committed the robbery.
A twelve gauge pump action shotgun, a .32 pistol, eleven live cartridges, and five live.32 rounds were found in possession of the bandits. Also, three spent cartridges and a .32 spent shell were retrieved at the scene.
Rhodwell Crawford was handed over to Police on Sunday by Canje Residents after he was heard shouting for help in the Canje River. He was positively identified by the victims of the robbery along with the two others that were charged.
