Dear Editor,
There is a new lake in Georgetown, it is called ‘Bel Park Lake’ and it has been created through the foolishness of the Georgetown Municipality.
With the City Council having a bulldozer owned by a private contractor mow down all of the trees and foliage there but more importantly making two deep a cut, there is now the creation of a huge basin that has been filled up with rainwater and water from the surrounding trenches.
City Hall is just a comedy of errors. It seeks and obtains foreign funding to the tune of US$41,000 to repair the Stabroek Market clock only to realize later that the entire area that houses the clock would have to be rehabilitated first before they repair the clock. They have comprehended they don’t have the money to rehabilitate the area that houses the clock’
Then there was the brilliant idea of air conditioning of the bottom flat of the reconstructed Kitty Market and placing extractor fans and other means of ventilation. As part of the grand plan, there was also to be the installation of an automatic switchover generator to cater for power outages. They also planned on having the meat and fish sections of the market equipped with refrigeration facilities to meet public health standards.
Alas! What has happened? The Council discovered that it had no money to do any such thing. In fact they had no money to even finish the building, and had to go cap in hand and beg for money to finish the building. What a sick joke.
The situation where the council bought one stun gun instead of two as is required to alternate when slaughtering to avoid over use. Overheating and without enough ammunition is another amusing if not wretched situation. Is there no one there to advise these suckers?
And what of the City Constabulary which was given 30 bicycles by a foreign embassy and which had eight of its own only to discover that the patrol unit consists of just 11 members, due to its purported cash-strapped state.
Best regards.
