DEAR EDITOR,
I would like to take this opportunity to ask as a supporter of the PPP/C: What exactly are the Leaders of the PPP/C doing for the Guyanese people? What are the policies and programmes that the PPP/C promulgated? How are the voters supposed to make an informed choice when they do not even know what the PPP/C stands for?
While the PPP/C may benefit from the AFC’s dwindling support, and lack of credibility with the populace, the PPP/C cannot/should not realistically expect to win the next General Election due in 2020 just by relying on these swing voters.
The PPP/C needs to realistically evaluate the chances of winning the next General Election with Bharrat Jagdeo in charge. The electorate shunned the PPP/C because it was felt that the PPP/C was not practicing good governance, being transparent, and was not accountable.
How can the PPP/C convince the majority of Guyanese that Bharrat Jagdeo is good for Guyana when so many ordinary Guyanese believe the opposite? Isn’t it time for Bharrat Jagdeo to leave the PPP so that the party can regenerate before the next General Election?
I am also advocating that the PPP changes the way it elects/selects its Leaders to make the process more democratic, as the Party Leaders are seen as being hypocrites when they preach socialism to the masses yet pursue capitalistic wealth themselves.
The vast majority of APNU+AFC supporters are not going to turn around and vote for the PPP/C because of the PNC-led APNU+AFC Coalition’s dismal performance in Government. It did not happen in 1992. It will not happen in 2020.
Small changes can make a big difference: the PPP/C must be more democratic, practice good governance, be transparent and be more accountable for it to win the 2020 General Election.
