Nov 12, 2017 Letters
Dear Sir,
I will not be disrespectful to a former President of my Beloved Guyana, but this letter, if he pays attention to it, should help him to present himself to the public in a manner that befits a former President.
I was at a funeral on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017 at Canefield Settlement, East Canje Berbice. Donald Ramotar presented himself there, also, because he knew Bill Jagroo, one of the sons of the deceased, a lovely, angel like lady.
I lived directly next to Bill Jagroo for many years. He was the deputy Chairman of Region Six, during the brief reign of Donald Ramotar, as President, and he was like a brother to me. I knew and loved his mother, that Angel, as if she were my own mother.
Donald Ramotar was asked to ‘make a contribution, by the MC, who is a Brother-in-law of Bill Jagroo. I was sitting about eight feet from him but directly opposite him, playing the ‘dantaal’, with the Kirtan group.
He started by saying that he did not know the deceased and offered condolences to Bill and his siblings. Within 60 seconds of his speech he spoke of President Granger and what the President said in Atlanta. He continued to desecrate that sacred occasion by hurling abuses at the Supporters of the AFC/APNU and accused them of betrayal and making false promises to the sugar workers.
It seemed as if this man was on a Political high. He felt he was gaining grounds so he continued with his gutter type politics by referring to us as ‘Harcaatees’ (a word that should be derogatory) and clearly stated that the people should get rid of the ‘Harcaatees’ from society.
It was so obvious that he was inciting the crowd to be violent against AFC/APNU supporters. Now when the word ‘Harkatee’ is used, people will laugh because it is supposed to be describing someone in a despicable way but the word is not a bad word like some others that are meant to be.
Har-katee…simply refers to one who eats a lot more like one who eats too much. Donald does not even know the meaning of the word. Anyway no one laughed.
He did not realize that he was speaking at the funeral of a lady loved by thousands for her soft spoken voice and caring attitude, and so he did not realize that he was making a disgusting fool of himself. The MC handed him a note that said ‘time up’ and he later concluded his tirade.
I would like Donald Ramotar to pay very careful attention to these following lines and hope that at any other funeral he would present himself in an appropriate manner. He is free to call Bill Jagroo and /or his siblings to verify what I am about to write.
He has upset every one of the relatives of the deceased and even several of the PPP supporters, who attended the funeral. He has managed to make me look good because the talk is that “Donald mess up Charran and Charran nah say anything”.
The Regional Chairman, David Armogan, was there and he spoke lovingly of the deceased and even he, David Armogan, was noticeably disturbed by Donald’s campaign speech.
Donald’s English was lacking in proper grammar, but that went un-noticed. He should have someone write his speeches for him so that he does not embarrass the Party he thinks he is helping. I have heard him speak at other functions and he always seem to be in Campaign mode. This man should be on a leash at funerals.
He failed as President of Guyana, he failed GUYSUCO, as a director, he failed to gain any Political mileage at that funeral but succeeded in losing voters . The man is doomed to fail and yet he went, after he left the funeral and boasted to Anil Nandlall how he F——up Charran at a funeral in Canje.
I got that from an amused Anil Nandlall at the High Court, in New Amsterdam, very early the next morning. I think that this man needs to have someone monitor what he says in public because he feels he is doing a fine job.
Mr. Editor, the entire Jagroo family is upset with what Donald did at the funeral of their loved one, particularly Bill Jagroo, and I think he should apologise to them. I am not all disturbed by what he did because I now have a few more persons who will support me in almost anything I do.
Thanking you,
Respectfully
Charrandass Persaud (MP)
