Dear Editor,
I have asked Member of Parliament, Harry Gill to justify himself being an American Citizen while serving in the National Assembly of Guyana. Member of Parliament Mr. Harry Gill has lived over twenty-two years in the United States of America and is now a Naturalised American Citizen; with which I have no problem. However, what I find wrong is that I am a tax-payer and from my salary each month, TAXES are deducted to pay this American citizen a parliamentary salary who is receiving pension and other benefits from the United States of America. Also MP Harry Gill travels the world as a proud American with his American Passport but yet sits in the Parliament of Guyana as a Guyanese.
What justification does MP Harry Gill have? We the TAXED citizens are burdened with each salary and duty free allowance granted MP Harry Gill each month knowing that he is questionably occupying a seat in the National Assembly. The Laws of Guyana clearly state that in order to become a member and serve in the National Assembly one has to give up their foreign citizenship. MP Harry Gill has not done so and will never give up his American Citizenship to serve in the National Assembly. He needs to resign with immediate effect or Government should determine if he should remain in National Assembly.
Our past great President Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham would have never tolerated any foreign citizen into our Nation Assembly because that honorable house is for Guyanese statesmen and the same is true in any other country. IT IS TIME for the President of Guyana or the Speaker of the National Assembly to investigate this urgent matter, whereby my hard earn Tax dollars are paying the man Harry Gill, an American Citizen for a seat he is occupying.
I close my letter by stating the corruption of the PPP/C may be too deep to get to the bottom of it, however, the case of MP. Harry Gill and the PPP/C should never go on unnoticed.
Harry Ajodha
