South Ruimveldt won the Ministry of Education National Sports Commission second annual Janet Jagan Memorial Secondary Schools Windball tournament played at the National Gymnasium recently.
South Ruimveldt defeated Diamond Secondary in the final played under lights. Diamond Secondary batted first and made 66-3 with Mileshwaree Gorakh scoring 30 and Asheanna Alli 22. Bowling for South Ruimveldt Precious Johnson took 2-14.
South responded with 68-1. Abigale Waddle got 40 and Joyann Schultz 10.
Carmel Secondary beat Xenon Academy by 10 wickets in the third place play off. Xenon Academy took first strike and scored 71-1. Rebecca Isaac hit 44 and Sonyra Ganesh 10. Carmel Secondary replied with 73 without loss. Indera Amerieo made 36, Siana Abrams 27.
South Ruimveldt overcame Carmel Secondary and Diamond beat Xenon Academy in the semi finals.
Sixteen schools participated in the two-day competition drawn from West Demerara, East Bank Demerara & Georgetown.
