The August vacation camp which was hosted by the National Sports Commission concluded on Friday last with a ceremony at Durban Park facility.
The camp saw participants being tutored in several sporting disciplines including cricket, football, table tennis, boxing, swimming and track and field for several weeks.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport Director of Sport Christopher Jones said it is heartening to see so many youths being involved. “We always wanted to ensure a large number of participants so we asked our coaches at the National Aquatic Centre, Colgrain pool, Gymnasium, National Sports Hall and now the new facility here at Durban park to double their numbers so we have a total of 800 students,” he added.
Jones stated that while they have assisted the outlying Regions financially, they intend to widen the programme in the future.
