Sophia All Stars registered a narrow one-wicket win over Sophia Warriors to capture the African Cultural Development Association (ACDA) 8 overs Softball Cricket Competition which was played on Monday, at the National Park.
The event which formed part of the ACDA Emancipation Sports Programme saw Warriors bat first and compiled 43 all out off the allotted overs with Alvin Ragubir hitting a top score of 12.
Seeraj Rahaman, Hamid Johnson and Carlton Cummings each took three wickets.
In reply, All Stars struggled, but eventually reached the victory target, ending on 44-9 in 7.4 overs. In football, Akeem Barnwell XI beat Otto Barnwell XI 4-2, while in the Under-13 segment, a Rest Team squeezed past the All Stars 3-2.
According to coordinator Johnny ‘Overseas’ Barnwell, the winners of the respective competitions will be presented with their prizes on a date to be announced. The following sponsors were on board and they include National Sports Commission, P& P Insurance, Trophy Stall, Tent City, John Fernandes Ltd, John Lewis Styles, Artic Maintenance & Repairs, Paul’s Importers and Distributors, Federal Management Systems, Dr. Van West Charles and Sleep In Hotel.
