Kaieteur Sports – Attacking, opening batsman Patrick Rooplall struck a pugnacious, unbeaten 74 to fire Regal to a handsome, 10-wicket against hosts Lusignan Sports Club in the other semi-final match of the 2026 Guyana’s 60th Independence Anniversary softball, Over-40 T20 knockout competition.
The right-handed Rooplall belted eight mammoth sixes in a 17-ball show as Regal reached 78 replying to Lusignan Sports Club’s moderate 77 all out in 13-overs on Friday.
When the home-team batted, Geewan Persaud top-scored with 36 as Rudolph Johnson grabbed 4-9 from two economical overs while he received excellent support from Rawl Reid and Shazim Mohamed with two wickets apiece.
Meanwhile, Regal was set to clash with Essequibo Coast-based team Caribbean Cricket Club 2 in the final yesterday at Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary, Georgetown.
The winning team was set to collect $200,000 and a trophy while the runners-up will take home $100,000 and a trophy as well. The player-of-the-match in the championship game is guaranteed $5000.
This four-team tournament is being run by the Georgetown Softball Cricket League Inc. in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports with the Theme: Diamond Jubilee.
There are Over-50 (Legends) and female categories as well. Both finals were to take place yesterday and at the same venue with monetary prizes up for grabs.
