North East La Penitence upset Sparta Boss for place in MoH Soft Shoe football final

Goalkeeper Devon Charles inspired North East La Penitence to the final of the Ministry of Health/Petra Organisation Soft Shoe Football Championship, eliminating champion Sparta Boss 2-0 via penalty kicks on Thursday evening last.
Charles turned in a man of the match performance, making consecutive saves to send the champions packing after normal and extra time ended 2-2.
Charles handed his side the early initiative when he denied veteran marksman Gregory Richardson to start the penalty shootout, affording his team the opportunity take the 1-0 lead in front of a large gathering. He made his mark again in the second round as he thwarted Devon Millington to his right side, handing his team an even greater opportunity as they sealed the fixture through an Alwin Moore shot.
In the early exchanges, Sparta Boss took the lead in the 10th minute when Richardson scored following a pass from Millington on the left side.
Although both sides handed opportunities to strengthen their respective position, it was the challenger that found the back of the net to equalise. On the stroke of full-time Charles turned and blasted his shot into the left corner after collecting a pass with his back to the goal area.
The resulting extra time interval immediately benefited North East La Penitence as Moore bundled his shot into the right corner after the goalkeeper fumbled a regulation catch onto his boot.
The game was sent into penalty kicks after Richardson scored his second with a shot down the centre after receiving a Millington pass from the right side.
North East La Penitence will now battle Tucville in the final on Sunday, July 17th at the Ministry of Education ground after the latter defeated Broad Street 3-2 on penalty kicks following a scoreless fixture.
The winner collects $300,000 and a trophy while the second placed side will receive $200,000 and the runners-up accolade.
The third placed side will receive $100,000 and the respective trophy while the fourth place finishers will pocket $50,000 and the corresponding title.
Individually, accolades will be given for the event’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Highest Goal Scorer. Other sponsors of the event include GTT, Lucky Dollar, Nigel Supermarket, Junior’s Jewellery, Star Party Rentals and 2-J’s General Store.
