Sophia, Queen Street of Tiger Bay, Kitty Weavers and North East La Penitence were the teams making it to the quarter-finals of the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) Soft Shoe Football Competition after registering wins in Round of 16 action on Saturday evening, at the Ministry of Education ground on Carifesta Avenue.
The night began with the matchup between North East La Penitence and Holmes Street of Tiger Bay that had shown terrific form early in the competition, but they failed to get past a determined opponent, losing 2-1.Alwin Moore gave North East La Penitence the lead in the 14th minute, but Jahaal Greaves responded for Holmes Street five minutes later as they went to the break deadlocked at 1-1.
Both teams came out in the second half battling for the ascendancy and it was North East La Penitence that got it through Shaquille Brown’s goal in the 33rd minute to seal victory.
The quarter-finals is set for Sunday at the same venue.
