Director of Tourism Mr. Indranauth Haralsingh and Secretary/CEO of RHTY&SC Hilbert Foster with the delegation after the meeting.
The plans of the eight cricket teams of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) to host the best ever Town Week in the history of Guyana, last weekend received a major boost from the Guyana Tourism Authority.
Director of Tourism MR. Indranauth Haralsingh paid a courtesy call on the Club and during a two hour discussion with Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster pledged the entity’s full support for the Town Week activities which would be organised in observance of Rose Hall’s 46th Anniversary.
Foster informed that the club and teams were proud to be citizens of Guyana’s smallest Town and as such took a discussion to make this year’s anniversary a memorable one for residents. The main objectives would be to promote Rose Hall Town as a place for business investment, to highlight its achievements in Sports, Culture, Business, Economic Development and Education; to attract tourists to Rose Hall Town, to promote the Say Yes to Education and Sports Message and to promote Social Cohesion among residents.
A total of 16 activities would be organised between September 14-25 including what is anticipated to be an impressive opening ceremony, Day of Sports featuring T20 cricket, football and basketball, public exhibition, launch of a 40-page booklet on the history of the town, Career and Business Fair, Medical Outreach Programme, Steel Band Concert, Rose Hall Town Cuisine Competition, Open Air Family Concert and the opening of a Family Recreational Playfield.
Haralsingh said he was quite impressed with the plans of the club and its cricket teams for the Town Week including plans to transform the appearance of the town. The organisers were asked to submit a broad based proposal to the Guyana Tourism Authority for sponsorship. The Director was accompanied by Tourism Officer Raj Roopnarine, while the Rose Hall Town delegation included Mayor Vijay Ramoo, Deputy Mayor Dave Budhu, RHTY&SC Assistant Secretary Franklyn Ross, Executive Member Mark Papannah and Zakir Ali of the St. Francis Community Developers.
An Organising Committee is set to be named, shortly.
