GFF presents tickets for May 15 Jaguars/Canada clash to students

On a sunny morning yesterday in the Community of Sophia the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) put smiles on the faces of students of the Sophia Special School which rivaled the brightness of the sun.

GFF’s Dario McKlmon presents tickets for the Jaguars v Canada game to Head Mistress of the Sophia Special School Debra BilalAttu yesterday as students and MOE officials share the moment.

The thoughtful gesture to donate 100 tickets to students for the May 15 friendly International between the Golden Jaguars and Olympic team Canada at the Providence Stadium was initiated by the GFF and Ministry of Education (MOE) at a time when Education Minister Rupert Roopnarine is placing emphasis on physical education in learning institutions.
The tickets will guarantee entry for what is expected to be a keenly contested game since the Jaguars, who have jumped 30 places up the FIFA rankings after their last match against Puerto Rico will be going all out to for a confidence boosting win. But Canada are expected to give the local unit a ‘run for their money’ since the North Americans play a high standard of professional football.
The feature game of the double header commences at 18:00hrs after Digicel Secondary Schools Champions Christianburg Wismar face-off in what should be a riveting schools match-up with Georgetown Milo Champs Chase Academy from 16:00hrs.
Clifton David, District Education Officer responsible for Secondary education in Georgetown and the Ministries’ head of Physical Education Department Nicholas Fraser, Linden France GFF’s TDO and GFF’s Marketing and sponsorship Director Dario McKlmon were all present yesterday.
Head Mistress Debra BilalAttu and eager students filled the room while two males (Quincy Carter & Roy Gill) and a pair of females (Aaliyah Lambert & Terisa Pierre) were selected to be a part of the presentation party.
McKlmon, speaking on behalf of GFF President Wayne Ford, said that it is important for students to get involved in sports at an early age since there is a broad range of possibilities in a sports career both on and off the field.
“This game which was made possible with the support of the Canadian High Commissioner, should be witnessed by as many young people as possible since you could learn a lot about Football and help to create a new and broader fan base,” McKlmon told the youths.
The GFF marketing man reminded that although they are leading the way with this tickets donation he encouraged corporate Guyana to come on board with similar donations since this will help to spread the interest in Football among school children.
France told the gathering that there are many opportunities in Football to make a decent living even if you don’t get to national level as a player.
“You could get into so many football-related activities, such as being a Coach, Referee, Fitness trainer, Football Writer among other professions,” France informed.
Fraser said he was pleased to be a part of this occasion, but was especially excited about the school’s contest.
“This game is between two schools champions and I hope the game serves as an inspiration to all of you to see students just like you playing at an International Stadium and watched by we all hope is a massive crowd,” Fraser concluded.
Speaking on behalf of the school, Head Teacher BilalAttu thanked the GFF for their wonderful gesture and reminded that this was not the first such donation to the institution.
It is hoped that the 100 students with free tickets encourage their relatives and friends to turn up at Providence on May 15 to support the Golden Jaguars in an event which forms a part of this Nation’s Golden Jubilee 50th Anniversary celebrations.
