Beehive XI a crowd favourite, Wellwoman dominate Lady Jags
The East Coast Mash 10/10 Challenge Cup was made for exciting cricket as the teams battled for supremacy with Better Hope XI being triumphant in front of a small but emotional crowd who were vocal in support of their team and so it was as they delivered and remain the dominant team on the East Coast.
The day began with a mixed team playing an exhibition match which saw East Coast combined, which included players from all the teams against an over-40 Masters team from West Coast in Blazers. The East Coast team defeated the West Coast team by 7 wickets.
West Coast Blazers batted first and scored 80 all out in 9 overs with Orville Black scoring 24 laced with one six and one four. Patrick Khan took 1-20 from his two overs with the majority of wickets going via the run out route. The Combined side replied with 81-3 in 7 overs. Shakeer Ali took 2-18 from his two overs.
In the female match Wellwoman defeated Lady Divas by 15 runs.
Wellwoman XI lost the toss and were inserted managing 96-8 in 10 overs and Lady Divas were bundled out for 81 in their 10 overs.
In another exhibition match, Better Hope XI defeated Vipers XI by 8 wickets. Vipers XI batted and scored 113-5 in 10 overs with Premnarine Omadat scoring 29 (3×6; 1×4) and extras being the second top scorer with 21. Ajay Singh took 3-13 from 2 overs for the Better Hope boys. In reply Better Hope XI rattled up 116-2 in 4.5 overs with Sachin Singh 37 (5×6; 1×4) off 11 balls and Navin Singh 35 (3×6;2×4) off 11 balls to steer them to victory. Arif Hussain took 1-18 from 2 overs bowling for Vipers.
Beehive XI defeated Hy-Times by 7 wkts:
Hy-Times batted first and scored 94-9 in 10 overs with Keron Seunarine top scoring with 16. In reply Beehive raced to 95-3 in 7 overs with Ovid Seymour blasting his way to 43 not out (2×6; 5×4) off 19 balls supported by Lionel Alphonso with 36 (5×6) off 12 balls to propel them to victory. Andrew Williams took 3-20 in 2 overs.
The final saw Beehive XI winning the toss and batting scoring 122-5 in 10 overs with Sheldon Adams scoring 52 (2×6; 2×4) off 26 balls. Andy Singh took 1-15 from 2 overs. In reply Better Hope XI were made to work hard even though they only lost one wicket and only achieved victory in the last over due to a misfield with Navin Singh batting through to score 63 (4×6;4×4) off 23 balls and Sachin Singh making 30 (1×6;3×4). Better Hope now go forward as the East Coast Representative in the Challenge series.
Meanwhile, the One ball Manto attracted 10 pairs and were unable to be completed due to the volume of matches but the spectators were very receptive of the format and information gathered was that a day of one ball manto will be organized for the benefit of the people around the area.
