Dear Sir,
“With administration being the most important, but yet still the most unthankful area of any sport,” I still support the notion of the philosopher, who once said, “If one were to ask me for the prerequisite of being involved, in sport, I would say it is to be happy”.
Editor, while I cannot provide the answers for numerous past (old school) administrators, along with a few present ones. For myself, empathically, I can say I am unhappy! Unhappy in the sense, that in our time, management/ coaching/ physical training et.al of national teams was done primarily, on a voluntary basis. Occasionally, a stipend was worked out for local matches, whenever profitability was substantial.
Meanwhile, fast-forward to 2015, with an extended administrative arm of the Normalization Committee, consisting of no less than three (3) individuals in the area of management, suffice it to say that financial remunerations are accorded. But yet still regularization of immigration status of overseas born players for national representation were a colossal failure; moreover, with one of the players have represented England, the country of his birth at the junior level.
Editor, it would be remiss of me not to mention, and of course for public edification, outside of recruitment for national representation by overseas born player (s) by FIFA statues, three (3) clauses are applicable:
i. Mixed parentages/ Grandparents
ii. Representing a country of birth, at the under 21 level, then switching to another country, confirming to clause (1).
iii.Declaration of self-independence (break-away) from a sovereign state. i.e. Yugoslavia- Croatia! (This however, is a longer and more tedious process).
If the afore-mentioned are not known then, the entire administration (management included must be replaced), since an extension of the administration occurred, with the under-23 national team for the Olympic Qualifiers. Whereby, an overage player was selected and travelled also? Once again, wastage of scarce finances.
Editor, on a pertinent point the “Adoption of the GFF’s Constitution, by the majority at the behest of the Normalization Committee” With the possibility existing of legal ramifications! Can it be ascertained if based on the previous constitution; the articulation pertaining to “loss of membership” was applicable? Whereas prolonged inactivity in relation to coordinating competitions; convening General Council Meetings, Submission of its Annual Calender of Activities inclusive of:(Bi) Annual Audited Financial Statements, Minutes of Meetings.
How many Associations fulfilled all, if not most of these requirements that previously would have enabled them of affiliate status? Failing which, “Associate status, devoid of voting rights” is applied with the concurrence of the General Council!
Within this context, how is there an increase of affiliates? What criteria were utilized? “With the comedy of errors continuing unabatedly and the mal-administration and under development at an all-time low”, best suited for the Critchlow Labour College Auditorium in “nothing to laugh about”! Inclusiveness must be extended to the former GFF President, Christopher Matthias and his two acolytes that were all armed with placards, picketing outside the Marriot Hotel, where the Normalization Committee held its Congress.
Picket/ Protest over what? When factually and in actuality the “beginning/suspension of Executive Members of the UDFA, almost two years ago, during Matthias’ tenure was: Unconstitutional, a breach of natural injustice and dictatorial.
The bigger picture simply translate into “all are involved, all are consumed”! A burning shame that in 2015 abnormalcy supersedes normalcy, to the extent that, No Association, for the corresponding period under review, have coordinated a senior and under- 21 league competition, to aid in the proper selection of national teams. Hence, first round eliminations!
What is now the new dispensation with an expanded Digicel Schools’ Championship, including a private lesson holder as a participant along with tertiary institutions? Am I happy, definitely not!
Respectfully yours,
Lester Sealey
