Guyana’s club champions Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United would be aiming

Alpha will open their quest to top the group when they oppose Inter Moengotapoe from 16:00hrs tomorrow at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence. On Friday, Central FC and Inter Moengotapoe will square off at the same venue and time while the final game of the group is set for Sunday again at the Stadium when Alpha engage Central FC.
Kaieteur Sport caught up with Alpha Head Coach Wayne Dover yesterday afternoon during their training session at the GDF ground.
The experienced coach who took the local champions to Group 3 top honors last year when they defeated Defence Force of T&T 2-0 and Waterhouse of Jamaica 1-0 said that preparations have been going well this time around and he is looking forward to a total team effort from his charges.
“Our main aim in this 2015 CFU championship at this moment is to qualify out of this group then we will take it to the next group to ensure that we win our semi final game, play for the championship and win the tournament.”
Not wanting to single out any particular player, Dover shared that it is his wish that the entire group execute what they have been working on over the past weeks on the field of play come tomorrow and Sunday.
“I would hope that the entire group delivers the things we worked on. We would to ensure that everybody fire and we have a total team effort.”
Among the players leading Alpha’s charge would be the experience of Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson, Grenadian forward Kithson Bain, Jamaican midfielder Kirk Duckworth, Canadian based defender Jamaal Smith and goalkeeper Ronson Williams.
Dover is calling on the fans to come out and play their part in urging Alpha on to victory: “The 12th man on any day is an important person and if we can get eh crowd to come out and cheer us, moments when we are down they are behind us, moments when we are up they are behind us, that gives a good situation for us to keep that momentum going to score some goals and win the game.”
Back in 2011, Alpha became the first Guyanese to qualify for the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League.
