Lindener, Floyd Cumberbatch took a commanding lead to win the National ‘A’ class Draughts competition over the weekend at the National Gymnasium.

He amassed 21 points over his rivals Jiaram and Khemraj Pooranmall who both ended on 16 points. However, a walk over from Michael Francis gave Pooranmall two extra points to place him second while Jairam had to be contented with the third spot.
Aubrey Straughn the most senior ‘A’ class player, who was out of competition for a number of years, placed fourth with 15 points, while newly appointed ‘A’ class player Steve Bacchus with 14 points finished in fifth position, proved that the ‘bigger boys’ life would not be that easy.
This is the first win in any tournament for Cumberbatch and the first three finishers received trophies from the National Sports Commission (NSC).
The Open International game on the 100 square boards is set for Sunday and the top two finishers will collect monetary awards sponsored by Pygon from America Street.
