Guyana’s distance running ace, Cleveland Forde will aim to end his 2014 Season on a high when he competes in the

third instalment of International Association of Athletics Federations’ (IAAF) South American 10km Road Race in Panama.
Forde enters the race with an impressive track record after winning the second stage of the same race on Sunday in Suriname. Forde, nicknamed ‘The Little Kenyan’, had also won the first stage in Guyana two weeks ago. The two high-profiled South American races, coupled with the Ainlim 10km Road Race, meant that Forde has won three in a row.
He missed the Courts 10km Road Race owed to the Chikungunya virus. However, Forde, stating that he is not fully recovered, managed to win the first leg of the South American race in the best time recorded in Guyana for a 10km race this year.
Forde went on to win in Suriname in 32:45 ahead of local nemesis, Cleveland Thomas (32:52), who was third at the first stage. Guyana had a clean sweep in Suriname when Linden’s Winston Missingher finished third with 33:42 in the race.
CARIFTA Games bronze medallist from last year, Andrea Foster won her first major 10km race in Suriname when she won the women’s version in 41:48 ahead of Caroline Marlet (42:22) and Esmeralda Amania (42:46) in that order respectively.
Despite the continued absence of the Panamanians from the race in Guyana, Forde has been one of the most consistent representatives in Panama, which is of a higher altitude. His best placing is a second place finish, which he will hope to improve this year, winning his fourth consecutive 10k race to close the season.
