17th Hearts of Oak Masters football camp underway
The 17th edition of the Annual Hearts of Oak Masters Football Club “Teach Them Young” football holiday camp is underway.
The camp begun on Monday 21th July and is expected to last until Friday 22nd August. It is being held at the Scot Church ground, Princess Elizabeth Road New Amsterdam and the nearby Prison Officers Sports Club and the All Saints Primary School.
The programme is being held five days weekly from Mondays to Fridays except holidays from 09:00hrs -13:00hrs.
During the camp the youths are being taught the finer points of the game which includes both theory and practical. The programme also caters for the developing of their interpersonal skills and relationship.
The practical sessions entail showing the youngsters the various ways in receiving, passing, shooting, dribbling, Goalkeeping and throwing the football among other points.
The youths are also expected to be schooled in discipline, etiquette, good table manners and general education which will also include session on HIV and AIDS. Physical fitness is also expected to be an integral part of the sessions.
According to coordinator, Neil ‘Grizzly’ Humphrey, the main aim of the programme is to have the youths better able to appreciate the rules and regulation of the game, improve their knowledge and skills and understand general sportsmanship and have a better human relationship with others and improve their discipline generally. Some of the personnel and coaches that will be involved in the sessions are former national players Adrian Forde, Kendrick Bowry, Neil Humphrey and other including Randy Sears, Nigel Felix.
