yesterday at the National Resource Centre, Woolford Avenue.
The programme is geared to enhance the technical aspect of the game at all levels. Speaking with Kaieteur Sport, technical director of the GVF, Marlon Pearson, said that every team that represents Guyana must have a fully qualified referee adding that is also important that each club has someone who can interpret the rules.
Pearson stated that he is pleased with the interest shown by the participants. “We have participants from as far as Lethem, Corentyne, Buxton as well as members of the Guyana Defense and Police Forces. After the conclusion of this workshop, they are expected go back to their community and share their knowledge with members of their associations and clubs which will prepare them for another course we will conduct later this year which will be of a higher level and also includes coaching”, he added.
Kaieteur Sport was made to understand that several teachers were unable to attend the clinic because they were not given the necessary time off. But it is hoped that they can join shortly which will be of tremendous benefit to the schools.
The seminar is being facilitated by Regional Volleyball Federation President and FIVB referee Cimino Carlos of Brazil. In an invited comment Carlos said that the CSV is developing a programme for all national federations in the technical aspect for coaches, referees and organizers. “It is important for everyone to have the same interpretation of the rules”, he argued.
“I hope that the participants will be well equipped and will take the lessons learnt to their various bodies so that the game will reach another level”, Carlos informed.
