This year’s KO competition will involve the top four teams of the Community as well as four teams from outside the Region including a touch of International flavor in San Martin FC from Venezuela. In tonight’s opening encounter, Georgetown’s Sun Burst Camptown FC will clash with Den Amstel of West Demerara at 6pm. In the feature game the pride of Bartica, Beacon FC will oppose former Champions of Bartica, Wolves United.
The conclusion of the first round of matches will be tomorrow night when One time K&S Champions, Victoria Kings of East Coast match skills with the visiting Venezuelans at 6pm and in the finale to follow, Rising Stars tackle Mel Ballers in an all Bartica affair. The semi finals are set for Thursday while the Tournament will climax on Easter Saturday night.
According to Chairman of Bartica’s Interim Management Committee for Football, Michael Martindale, Ansa McAl has contributed the Champion’s purse of half a million dollars, while Banks DIH will provide the runners-up prize and 3rd place prizes of $200,000 and $100,000 respectively.
Martindale added that, “The 8-Team Tournament gives the Community the opportunity to see the talents of the region which have been suffocating for 4 years now. We are indeed delighted to have four teams from outside the Community coming to participate. I think it is a big plus for the sport.”
“Our aim as the IMC is to bring back the sport to its rightful place as the number one sport in Bartica,” Martindale opined.
The IMC is once again working in tandem with Chief Organiser, I Salam of ‘I’ Movement Promotions in hosting the Tournament as part of the Annual Bartica Regatta Festival.
