Tigers’ decision to insert Mavericks paid dividends as they were bowled out for 88 in 16.4 overs at the Everest Cricket Club. Tigers then knocked off the target in 14 overs, ending on 92-3.
Mavericks opening pair Eon Williams and Deoram Persaud were very watchful as they put together 25 for the opening stand to set the foundation for a challenging total, but when Williams was leg before to Eon Abel for 13 and Desmond Butts uprooted the stumps of Persaud, the rest of the batting crumbled.
Abidi Haniff offered resistance somewhat with 18, while Harmanand Singh was the only other batsman that reached double figures with 10. Butts was the pick of the bowlers with 2-13.
Shiek Mohamed and Abel put the Tigers on course with an opening stand of 22 before Abel (00) was bowled by Steve Harripaul. Tigers then lost Jagdesh Persaud for 15 with the score on 52 and Mohamed for a top score of 32 which contained three fours; he departed with the total at 64. Ramo Malone, who was later named man of the match, stroked five fours to finish unbeaten on 26 and together with Jacob Persaud (03*) saw their team home. Harripaul and A. Singh took one wicket each.
Both teams received trophies. Speaking at the presentation ceremony sponsor Raj Singh congratulated both teams for making it to the final, adding that he is happy most of the earlier games were keenly contested. Singh explained that the idea was to get the older players back into club administration which will aid in the development of the game, since the board will be able to identify coaches, managers and referees. He informed that his company is in the process of expanding and the 2014 tournament will be bigger and better.
Captain of the victorious Tigers team, Sheik Mohamed, thanked the sponsors, umpires, teams and scorers.
