Renowned energy company, Wartsila will host the most lucrative Road Race in Guyana’s history to commemorate their 20th year of operations in Guyana. Kaieteur Sport confirmed that in excess of $3M will be up for grabs in six individual categories in March.
This newspaper learnt yesterday that the individual cash prizes, which will be made public at the official launch of the 20km Road Race, represent the largest bounty for any road race. Wartsila is celebrating its anniversary between February 23 and March 2 with the race concluding a week of activities for the company.
The hefty sums being doled out are certainly bound to attract the crème de le crème. International invitations were also sent out for athletes from the region and further afield since Wartsila has an extensive operation in over 70 countries across the world.
The race will start in Paradise, East Coast and proceed to finish in front of Wartsila’s Head Office, Water Street, Kingston. All seasoned distance-running athletes are expected to compete in a race that will certainly set new standards for athletics in Guyana.
