– ahead of outreach this month end
The Guyana Amateur Weightlifting Association (GAWA) is moving full steam ahead with plans to revive the sport in Guyana.
Having listed an Outreach Programme in the Ancient County of Berbice as one of the first moves in the revival quest, a five-member GAWA team headed by President Frank Tucker will be visiting that County this weekend to
concretize plans.
Secretary Deion Nurse, who will also form part of the delegation, told Kaieteur Sport that they intend to leave no stones unturned in ensuring that the October 26 – 27 Outreach is successful.
The Outreach is being organised in conjunction with the successful Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club.
It’s (outreach) primary objective is to revive the sport at the community level; to inform and sensitize the public on the benefits of the sport in relation to their health and wellbeing.
Forming part of this month end’s activity will be a seminar which will deal among other things, rules of the sport. There will also be an exhibition and mini competition among new comers to the sport.
Some seasoned lifters will also be on show as will the three lifters that represented Guyana at the just concluded 1 South American Youth Games that were held in Lima, Peru. Those lifters are Sheriah Melville, Denoila Bristol and Darren Williams.
