Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) under its Pepsi brand which
is internationally renowned, has once again renewed its sponsorship of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club (RHTY&SC) Under-19 cricket team, valued some $230,000.
This year’s partnership marks the 9th successive year that DDL/Pepsi has been sponsoring the team after becoming its official sponsor in 2004 replacing the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company.
RHTY&SC Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster, at the simple presentation on Thursday said that Pepsi was one of the foundation pillars in the success story of the Club. Under the sponsorship of Pepsi, the team has won three Berbice Under-19 championships and was runner up twice.
Male players the likes of Assad and Addel Fudadin, Delbert Hicks, Shawn Pereira, Loyydel Lewis, Clinton Pestano, Dominique Rikhi, Arif Chan, Shevon Marks and Murphy La Rose are all products of the Pepsi sponsorship while female Under-19 players, Shemaine Campbelle, Jacquelin Singh, Nermala Sewdat, Kimberly King and Teddie Crawford among others have represented Berbice, Guyana and the West Indies.
Fudadin has gone on to represent the West Indies while Campbelle is now a senior member of the Regional one-day squad. Foster expressed gratitude to the Management of Demerara Distillers Limited especially the Marketing staff of Mrs. Sharda Veeren-Chand, Larry Wills and Alexis Crawford.
The long serving Secretary/CEO committed the Pepsi Under-19 team to upkeep its high standards and to always strive for excellence. The Pepsi ‘A’ team would be captained by Shawn Pereira with Arif Chan as his Deputy while the ‘B’ side will be led by David Lewis, Brandon Prashad is the Vice.
Regional Manager of Demerara Distillers Limited Albert Budhoo hailed the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club as a role model organisation that is clearly one of the best in the Caribbean. Budhoo expressed DDL’s pleasure at being associated with the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club and they will continue to support the Under-19 team in the future.
The Company he said is fully aware of its corporate responsibility to the up-liftment and development of communities noting that over the years, DDL has invested heavily in sports, culture and education.
Pepsi, Budhoo said is associated with discipline, success and fair play. He expressed confidence that the Club would continue to represent the brand successfully. The Company also handed over 30 Pepsi Tee Shirts to the club for players of both teams.
Pepsi is one of the five official sponsors of the cricket teams of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club. The others are Farfan & Mendes Ltd, Bakewell, Metro Office and Computer Supplies and Gizmos and Gadgets.
