The Kennard Memorial Turf Club will come alive tomorrow when the Entity stages it Grand Annual One Day Phagwah Horserace meet at the club’s entity, Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne Berbice.
Eight races are on the cards with over 5.2 million dollars at stake. Over 60 of the country’s top race horses have taken entry in what is expected a fascinating and scintillating day of racing.
The feature event is for animals classified B and lower with the winner set to race away with a first prize of $1M compliments of Jumbo Jet Auto Sales over 7 Furlongs. The lineup is an impressive one with a few newly imported animals also expected to compete. Headlining the entries are The Message, Grande De Roja, Who is on the Case, Clever cat, Who So ever, Fresh Again, Stormy Flame, Wad A Luck, Swing Easy, Night Crescendo, Awesome Warrior, and newly imported, Brown Majesty and Massive King.
The E class event will see the winner running away with $500,000 and trophy compliments of Mike’s Pharmacy and the Saroop family. Night Crescendo, Home Bush Baby, Maya, Sabrina’s Joy, Marathon man and newly imported Traditional Man and Them Girls Surge are all in contention.
The 6 Furlong race for three year old Guyana and West Indies Bred horses has the likes of Happy Choice, Big Red, Serenity, Princess Ceara, Flash of melody, Times Have Changed, Baby Flyer, Rock Sonia, Settle in Seattle and Windy war competing for the $400,000 first prize over 7 furlongs compliments of City Mall.
The other events listed for the day are races for the G class animals over a distance of 6 Furlongs for a winner’s money of $300,000.
The H class race compliments of DDL will see the winner taking home $220,000 and trophy in the 6 furlong event. The race for the ‘I’ class animals carries a winning purse of $150,000 also over 6 Furlongs. The JK class 6 Furlongs race has a pole position taking of $120,000 and trophy. There is also a race for L class animals which will see them racing for a top purse of $100,000 and trophy over 5 furlongs.
The Champion Jockey and Runner up Jockeys, Trainer and stables will all receive accolades compliments of Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall Bourda market and some other donors.
Race time is 13:00 hrs and according to the organisers the track and other facilities are in excellent condition. (Samuel Whyte)
