Football fans were well entertained over the weekend as the annual 20/20 knock out football tournament got underway.
The game which was well supported saw Essequibians from across the Region lending support to their favorite teams, but the action didn’t get started until the march past and a declaration of the tournament was duly observed by newly elected Regional Chairman, Parmanand Persaud.
Eight teams from as far as Moruca, Region One, Henrietta, Queenstown, Devonshire, Castle, Charity, Supernaam, Dartmouth and Richmond were the contenders.
Emerging in first place was Queenstown winning 2-1 against Henrietta United. Queenstown were awarded $50,000 dollars along with a trophy, Henrietta took second place and walked away with $25,000thousand dollars and a trophy, while Charity who finished third collected a trophy and $10,000 thousand dollars.
Sherwin Hubbard was named the most valuable player for the tournament, with a spectacular goal and for scoring the most.
Meanwhile, a new addition to the tournament saw a group of Junior ranks from the police training School at Suddie participating.
Representative from the Guyana Football Federation, Carlos Prowell along with those from the newly formed IMC, were among guests. (Yannason Duncan).
