The 2011 edition of the Enterprise Busta Sports Club organised Busta Twent20 Cricket Festival is expected to bowl off in about two weeks time according to the organisers.
Details for this year’s tournament were released to the press on Tuesday at the sponsors {Guyana Beverage Inc.} Headquarters located at Diamond, East Bank Demerara.
Club President Karran Ramdhoon informed that eight (8) clubs will be vying for the top prize of $50,000 with a second place incentive of $25,000 also at stake.
The clubs expected to participate are Lusignan, Enmore, LBI, Buxton, Enterprise, Unity, Rockaway and Fairfiled. Jerseys, water game balls and Busta products will be provided to the competing teams by the sponsor. Managing Director of Guyana Beverage Inc. Mr. Robert Selman in remarks at the launching stated that the Company along with its parent Company SM Jaleel of Trinidad and Tobago is very proud to be able to offer a positive avenue for young people and communities to showcase their talent.
HE stated that the EBSC reminds him of where he came from in the Twin Island Republic recalling the days of cutting bamboo root to make cricket balls and a bat handle tree to make bats.
“When I see youths going astray and by God’s willing I’m in a position to help and I don’t, God will take away that gift from me. When I saw Enterprise and the amount of youths playing at the ground it gave me the pleasure and enjoyment to get on board with them.”
“I saw the potential of the people and decided to support not only the community but the entire East Coast where we sell our products. So we decided to have this competition featuring the clubs in the East Coast.”
Club Treasurer Rasheed Baksh thanked Guyana Beverage Inc. for their constant support which has enabled the club to grow from strength to strength ever since 2008 with their motto being ‘Strive for Gold’.
Baksh informed that the club has a current membership of 50 persons and is not just a cricket club but they organize other sports as well despite cricket being the main sport.
“We have two senior cricket teams including one at the first division level, Under 15 and 19 and very soon we will be placing more attention on starting our female team.” Baksh informed.
Details on the fixtures and playing days will be released shortly.
