Jamaica crowned themselves three-day champions of the WICB Regional Under-19 tournament for the second time in three years when they crushed Windward Islands by an innings and 77 runs inside two days at DCC yesterday.

Resuming the day at 251 for two in reply to the Windwards’ first innings of 99, Jamaica marched to 320 for six declared at lunch, a lead of 221 runs as West Indies left-hander John Campbell slammed nine six and 14 fours in 175.
Campbell who faced 229 balls in his pugnacious 275-minute innings fell 29 runs short of the 204 made by his countryman Jermaine Blackwood in last year’s tournament in St Lucia. Blackwood and Leon Johnson (2005 in St Vincent) are the last two players to score double centuries at this level.
Larry Edwards continued his good work for the Windwards, who won the competition last year, by taking 5-86.
Jamaica then routed the Windwards for 144 to wrap up the easy victory to finish the tournament on 43.7 points.
Jamaica’s coach Robert Samuels is delighted with his team’s victory, “It was a total team effort. They have done Jamaica proud.”
At Bourda, high quality batting from Emmanuel Lett put Trinidad & Tobago on the verge of victory over Leeward Islands to clinch the second position on the points table going into the final day of the three-day competition today.
The Leewards ended the second day of their contest against T&T on 106-7, still 144 behind with just three wickets in hand after Lett retired hurt on 187, the highest score in this year’s competition.
Lett joined Kaveem Hodge, Campbell and Braithwaite as the batsmen scoring centuries in the competition this year’s competition.
