(flashback)- The defending champions Young Achievers pose with the winning trophy at the inaugural competition.
The second annual Tradewind Tankers-sponsored Volleyball Tournament organised by Castrol Strikers is set to serve off this Saturday, at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, starting from 09:00 hrs.
According to a release from the Organisers, the tournament which provides a unique variety of the game is expected to be played in three locations across the country, using three formats, the sixes, fours and twos over a four-month period lasting from June to September.
The three locations identified are Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Berbice and West Demerara.
Prizes will be awarded from as early as the preliminary rounds where the winner of each round in the respective formats will receive $20,000, while the runner up takes home $10,000.
The overall champion collects $80,000, runner-up $40,000 and third place $20,000. Champion twos will also receive $20,000 and runner up $10,000.
This tournament the release added will determine the true volleyball champion with the winner being the team that scores the highest aggregate points in all three formats of the game.
The other dates that the tournament will be played on are as follows: July 2 at Port Mourant; July 23 – West Demerara, August 20 – New Amsterdam.
The semi-finals and final are set for September 3 and 10 respectively.
The tournament is open to all interested teams including females, while the rules will be adjusted for the females.
Teams will be eliminated as the tournament progresses towards the championship round.
Registration fee is $2,000 and teams are being asked to register by June 16.

Young Achievers of West Demerara is the defending champion, but according to a source, they will be hard pressed to retain the title as all the teams have intensified preparations and eager to dethrone the champs.
